Current Trends and Issues

There is a great shortage of early childhood professionals in many places. Because of this, many children may not be able to attend or access and early childhood education center or program. And without the access to early education, "many children may struggle with social interactions, and may experience increased social and emotional challenges".

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, there is now an emphasis on emotional well-being as it has greatly affected children's development and mental health. Overall, the pandemic has affected everyone. Especially causing a rise in anxiety and depression due to the isolation of the lock-down. This is one of the main issues and trends effecting children and the early childhood field currently.

When compared to the USA and England, "Children in Estonia identify others’ emotions more accurately and have stronger prosocial behaviour than children in England or the United States, but are more disruptive"

"We are committed to equity

At HighScope, we believe that every child deserves a high-quality, equitable early childhood education. This conviction for equity is the center of our early childhood research and what we practice in the classroom. We care deeply about the people we serve. That’s why we are dedicated to providing an early childhood education that supports every child and every community.

OUR MISSION

To close the opportunity gap through high-quality early childhood education.

OUR VISION

A world where every child has the opportunity to realize their full potential, regardless of their circumstances. At HighScope, we believe that high-quality early education has the power to change the trajectory of the world, one child at a time." (HighScope, 2023)

The HighScope mission statement connects to social-emotional well-being by being a crucial part of the overall well-being of children. When a child is well overall, the child preforms better in school, they are more motivated to learn, and they enjoy learning more. A child being well will help them realize their full potential, just as the HighScope mission statement describes.

Personal Testimony

As an early childhood professional, I will always advocate for children's safety, well-being, and learning. They deserve to feel safe, full, and loved at school and that is my goal as an educator. You can help advocate for children's safety, well-being, and learning too by attending conferences, reporting abuse, and promoting social-emotional well-being in your school, in your home, and in your workplace (such as in childcare or babysitting).

The Importance of Connections and Continuous Learning

As educators, must be Lifelong Learners. Which means we should always be researching and learning new material so that we may provide the best quality education possible for children.
